recent highlights.

Blue skies and frost-covered rooftops.  The weather lately has been glorious.  I don’t think I could ever survive living in the snow but a little chill in the air around Christmas time suits me just fine:)

My little guy turned two!!  He blew out his candles like a champ (I think we re-lit them five times, per his request) and didn’t complain that his mom failed to really throw him an official party or buy him a present.  Thankfully Nana pulled through with a firetruck which was a big hit:)  I know I know, I’m terrible.

My wonderful in-laws have come and gone all the way from Ireland and it was a very special two weeks.  I can’t put into words how much they mean to us so I’ll just post a few photos:)

Have you heard of ‘The Journey’?  It’s basically a reenactment of the time surrounding Jesus’ birth and ends with the night He was born.  It was incredibly realistic and a really cool visual experience that we walked through in about an hour.  In fact, it was so realistic that Méabh actually started crying because the Roman soldiers were being ‘so mean and scary.’  Haha!

yes, they had real camels!

strolling through the bustling town of Bethlehem

I participated in a little Christmas craft fair and it was good for me to get my creative juices flowing again:)  2019 — it is one of my goals to get back into art!  I may or may not have said that before…

Lastly, I snapped a couple of photos while on a breakfast date this morning with Niall.  Downtown Savannah was looking lovely and festive!  We love The Collin’s Quarter and it’s always a treat to eat a kid-free meal:)

Recently lots of people have asked me if I’m ready for Christmas … I usually say ‘I think so!’  We are keeping things simple and looking forward to a cozy Christmas with our little family.  What about you??  Hope everyone’s week is off to a good start:)

happy december + a christmas tradition

I can still distinctly remember Christmas time when I was a kid.  I can still smell that Christmas-y smell of the big cardboard boxes that were stored up in the garage rafters with ‘XMAS’ written in permanent ink.  I remember our simple nativity figurines, our ceramic church that plugged in so that light could shine through the tiny windows, and the old fashioned-looking candle snuffer that we all fought over using.  It’s still a little crazy to me to think that now I’M the mom!  I still feel like the little kid is there, getting giddy over decorations and loving all the cozy feels.  I love that I can start traditions with my own children that will last for years to come and hopefully make an imprint on their hearts.

One tradition that I started a couple of years ago was to give a Christmas book to Méabh (and any future children we may have!) each year.  Now, I realize that soon Eamon will be old enough to want one too — so next year I’ll probably have to say it’s for sharing;)  For now, my daughter is the only one who is old enough to care and she really does treasure her beloved Christmas stories.  Hint — put the books away with all of your Christmas decorations and only take them out this special time of year — otherwise, their novelty will wear off!

I got the idea for this tradition after reading this blog post.  I’ve always loved Emily’s blog and she has good taste.  She appreciates children’s books that are beautifully illustrated and I do too:)  My favorite so far is Red & Lulu.

I figure one day when I’m old and grey my kids can divvy the Christmas books up between themselves and perhaps read them to their own children around this special time of year.  It’s a nice thought, right?  Well, not the old and grey part but … you get the idea:)

Happy December!
